A Boaz teenager died early Saturday morning when he was shot
during an altercation that started at one Albertville convenience store and
ended in a parking lot at a downtown business.
16 year old Garrett Honea, was
shot in the chest.
Albertville police received a call about 1 a.m. of a
shooting at the business on North Broad Street near downtown. Officers arrived and found Honea dead from a
single gunshot wound. A 20-year-old Boaz
man had called 911 after the shooting and was detained at the scene without
incident.
It was discovered during the investigation that Honea and
the 20-year-old, known to be acquaintances, had been in an altercation at a
convenience store and moments later, the 20-year-old had driven away and pulled
into the North Broad business parking lot to check for damage to his vehicle.
Honea was with a group of males and approached the vehicle
of the 20-year-old, in an apparent attempt to start another altercation.
the 20-year-old pulled a 9mm pistol and fired once, striking
Honea in the chest.
The 20-year-old then called police.
Albertville police officers and paramedics with the
Albertville Fire Department responded.
The 20-year-old was detained, but has not been charged.
District Attorney Steve Marshall said the details must be
determined before someone can be charged in this incident, should there be a
claim of self-defense.
