One person is in custody after Cleburne County Sheriff's
deputies say he lead them on what they called a "short pursuit" early
Sunday morning in Heflin. Chief Deputy
Michael Gore says Brandon Keith Lecroy was the driver who lead them on the
chase on County Road 13 in Heflin that ended in a standoff and his eventual
surrender. Officials say Lecroy threw his gun out and surrendered to law
enforcement shortly after units from Oxford Police ESU arrived on the scene at
about 2am Sunday. Lecroy is being held
in the Cleburne County Jail on charges of attempted assault first degree, felon
in possession of a handgun and attempting to elude among other charges. Chief Deputy Gore says multiple agencies were
involved in this incident including Clay County Sheriffs Office, Randolph
County Sheriffs Office, Heflin Police Department, Wedowee Police Department,
Oxford Police Department, USDA law enforcement, ALEA state troopers, and ALEA
SBI. Due to the circumstances and the
multiple agencies involved, Cleburne County's Sheriff is requesting ALEA and
its State Bureau of Investigation to take control of the case.
