The Cleburne County High School gymnasium was filled
Thursday as 100 system employees, parents, students and residents attended a school
board work session following the temporary suspension of athletic and band
practices after the board failed to approve salaries for system employees on Monday.
Although the issue wasn’t resolved Thursday night either,
those gathered heard the basics of how the salaries were calculated and the
reasons why the board received the information after the former fiscal year
salary contracts ended.
Still, some said they wouldn’t feel the issue was settled
until the salary schedule was approved. That’s expected to happen at a special
meeting scheduled today.
Board chairman Jerry Cash opened the work session by
apologizing to the visitors that athletic and band practices had been
suspended, then he reminded them the board would just be discussing at the work
session, not voting. parents reiterated
their concerns from the meeting on Monday, focusing mostly on support of the
coaches and teachers.
