Qualifying for the office of Talladega mayor as well as
seats on the City Council and City Board of Education opened last tuesday and
will remain open for two more weeks, until July 23.
All five seats on the board and the council will be up for
election.
Incumbent Mayor Larry Barton will be running for reelection.
Candidate Vann Caldwell, who has previously sought the offices of mayor and
Ward 5 councilman, has qualified to run against him.
In Ward 1, incumbent Horace Patterson has already qualified
for reelection, and Katie Reynolds and Saundra Bellamy have qualified to run
against him. Incumbent Ward 1 board member Shirley Simmons-Sims will also be
seeking reelection.
In Ward 3, incumbent Councilman Donnie Miller will be seeking
a third term. Martha Livingston, who has run before, has qualified for the Ward
3 spot on the school board, although incumbent Bonnie Miller had not as of
closing time Friday.
Incumbent Councilman Joe Ballow will be seeking a second
term representing Ward 5.
The deadline to register to vote in the municipal elections
is Aug. 10. The general election will be Aug. 25.
