Deputy credited with saving mother and children from burning vehicle

Deputy Benjamin Kiser

A Calhoun County Sheriffs Deputy is being praised for his quick actions in saving a mother and her three children from a burning car.  Deputy Benjamin Kiser  was patrolling along Highway 431 in Saks on Tuesday when he saw a vehicle on its side in a ditch.  When Kiser checked the vehicle, he found the mother and at least one child was seriously injured. None of them could exit the vehicle on their own. Then, the sheriff's office says the vehicle caught fire. Kiser began pulling the children from the car and passed them to a Good Samaritan who had stopped to help. Then, Kiser was able to rescue the mother. The Anniston Fire Department arrived and crews were able to fully extinguish the fire.  The sheriff's office says they are proud of Kiser and he will be awarded commendations for his efforts.
The children and their mother were transported to the hospital.
