Talladega Police have arrested two suspects in the robbery
and beating of a legally blind man. The
suspects should be formally charged Today. Until then, their names are not
being released.
The 22-year-old victim is out of the hospital. At the
family's request his name is not being released. John Samford came up on the
victim Tuesday morning as he drove to work. Samford says the man was staggering
out of a ditch in a remote area at the intersection of Germany Mountain Road
and Bernie Station Road
.
Talladega police
say the victim's harrowing ride began when he was waiting outside his apartment
for his usual ride to work at the Alabama Industries for the Blind Tuesday
morning. Two men in a pick up truck, pulled up and forced him into the vehicle.
He was beaten, robbed and then pushed out of the truck.
Police say tips from the public helped catch the suspects at
a home in the city. One of them tried to run. The suspect bit two of the
officers. He was tased and injured in the scuffle. He is now in the hospital.
The other suspect is in jail.
