The Jacksonville Board of Education on Monday night approved
a search firm’s plan to find Jacksonville City Schools’ next
superintendent. The board discussed
finding a successor to fill interim Superintendent Tim Nabors’ position. It also
fielded questions from citizens concerned with releasing information relating
to a grievance filed with the school board back in February. The meeting, held in the cafeteria at Kitty
Stone Elementary and attended by all board members, started off with statements
from three residents wishing to have the grievance released to the public. Jim Turnbach, the board’s attorney, cited
potential legal blowback as the reason for not releasing the information. He
did, however, say that employees could release their own information on their
own. Citing concerns that there would be
retaliation against employees for releasing information, he said that he did
not see that as a possibility. Nabors
and the board also touched on the ongoing search for a new superintendent,
approving an $8,500 “Gold Package” that would solicit candidates from across
Alabama and other surrounding Southern states.
Board president David Glass said that the search could begin immediately
upon notifying the firm, and hoped that it would conclude soon after.
