Man drowns in Coosa River

A 54-year-old Etowah County man drowned in the Coosa River Sunday evening while bathing his dog.  The Etowah County Sheriff’s Office says James Herman Garett, of Coats Bend, and his friends were bathing their dogs in the river off Croft Ferry Road near the Eto  Garett became distressed. His friends tried to help him, but he went under. The body was recovered around 6:43 p.m about 30 feet from the bank.
