Cleburne County School Board to act on pay issues for coaches and band directors

Student athletes in the Cleburne County School System fear sports and band may be going away. But the adults who are making the decisions say it’s all going to work out OK.  Recently, the school board failed to approve supplemental pay for coaches and band directors. Without the pay, there’s no liability for those coaches and band directors, so the weight room, the football field, the baseball field sit empty. It’s likely student athletes will lose up to one week of practice, putting them behind their competitors.
School board president Jerry Cash said school board members had questions about supplemental pay for central office employees.
Cash said the supplements shouldn’t be attached to the salary. He   Some parents have taken to social media saying the school board has an agenda against one coach. The school board president said that’s not true.
said this is on the advice of the Alabama Association of School Boards. Cash said They should be attached with regular supplements. They should never be tied to an actual salary.
Cash said board members simply didn’t have enough time to review and discuss documents. They will do that during a work session at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, with a vote coming Friday or Saturday.
