Jacksonville council scheduled to hold first reading today on property transfer to school system

The Jacksonville City Council is scheduled to conduct a first reading this evening of an ordinance that would transfer land to the citys school board for a new elementary school. A first reading must take place first before the council can vote on the ordinance; city officials have said that vote is likely to take place at the last meeting in March.  Prior to todays meeting, the school board and the council will have a joint work session to discuss negotiations regarding the 31 acres of land off George Douthit Drive.
