Altoona couple charged with multiple burglaries

An Altoona man and his wife have been arrested and charged in connection to five burglaries that date back to February 2015.  37 year old Grover Wayne Carter, is charged with five counts of third degree burglary and one count of first degree theft of property, all are felonies. His wife, 28 year old Elsa Pearl Carter,  is charged with two counts of third degree burglary, which are felonies.  Investigators say that  Grover Carter broke into three residences and several chicken houses between February 9 and March 15. The burglarized properties are located on Old Gallant Road, Tumlin Gap Road, Silo Road and Terrell Road. Items valued at more than $16,000 were taken from the rightful owners.  Grover is also accused of breaking into a hunting camper on Unity Church Road. Items taken from the camper total more than $6,000.  Property stolen by Grover and his wife include a grandfather clock, wood burning heater, tools, various construction equipment, propane heaters, a window A/C unit, silver platters, 42 inch television, an antique shotgun and four-wheeler. Many items have been recovered but, many still remain missing.  Grover Carter is being detained in the Etowah County Detention Center on $17,500 bond. Elsa Carter was booked into the detention center and later released on $5,000 bond.
