Cheaha climbing victim identified



14-year-old Millie Elia, an eighth grade honor student and cheerleader at Oak Mountain Middle School, died while rappelling with her family on Saturday afternoon at Mt. Cheaha State Park.
A park ranger confirmed the incident happened around 4:40 p.m. near the Pulpit Gardens Trail.
Shelby County Schools spokeswoman Cindy Warner has identified the student as 14-year-old Millie Elia.
The school's counselor, LauraLinn Boone, asked for counselors from other Oak Mountain Schools to console any students who wanted to talk about their beloved friend.
Elia was a cheerleader and honor student at Oak MountainThe school will be holding a private memorial for students, teachers and her family on Tuesday.
 Officials have not released any other details about the incident.
