Latham found guilty of manslaughter

Kenneth Rex Latham

A Talladega County jury of seven men and five women deliberated for about 2 ½ hours Wednesday before finding 66 year old Kenneth Rex Latham, guilty of two counts of manslaughter.
Latham had been indicted on two counts of murder but was convicted of the lesser offenses. The jury also considered a verdict of criminally negligent homicide.
Latham now faces two to 20 years per count in the state penitentiary. He will be sentenced May 12 at 9 a.m. by Circuit Judge Julian King.
The charges stem from a car crash in Winterboro on March 1, 2013.
According to evidence presented at trial, Latham hit a vehicle head on after swerving and driving erratically down Alabama 21. Filemon Reyes Santiago, 28, and Areli Jacinto, 23, were pronounced dead at the scene, and the four young children riding with them were all injured.
