Police chief seeks publics help in solving murders

In the wake of two murders, the Sylacauga community is searching for peace and answers.
The Chief of Police is hosted a town hall meeting Monday evening at St. Thomas United Methodist Church. The message of the meeting was, “Don’t live afraid, live involved.”
The meeting came after the murder of 18-year-old Kieria Reynolds over the weekend, and 39-year-old Gerry Wallace earlier in April.
Both of the killings happened in the “south main avenue community.”
Police Chief Chris Carden believes the crimes are connected, and the killer is still on the loose. He hopes everyone can join in the search for whoever is behind the deaths, and help make the community a safer place.
During Monday’s meeting, Carden accepted responsibility for the crime on his watch, but reminded everyone that the burden doesn’t solely rest on him.
Carden said that although officers have made progress in the investigations, he does not have enough information to pursue any suspects. He’s urging anyone with information that could help to come forward.
