AHSAA released report of 2013-14 fines levied against schools for violations

The Alabama High School Athletic Association levied more than 800 fines for rules violations during the 2013-14 school year, according to the annual report released by the governing body this week.  The most notorious incident last year occurred when Walker football coach John Holladay and Cullman defensive coordinator Matt Hooper became involved in a fistfight on the field after the teams' season-opening game in Jasper.  Locally several schools received fines over the past year.  Southside high school was fined $250 for an ineligible player and $100 for unsportsmanlike conduct. Anniston high school paid fines of $300 for three incidents of unsportsmanlike conduct.  Gadsden city high school received stiff fines for two incidents of unsportsmanlike conduct, one for $500 and another for $300.  Glencoe high received to $300 fines for unsportsmanlike conduct.  Piedmont received a school fine of$250 and a $100 fine for unsportsmanlike conduct. Saks high received a $300 fine for unsportsmanlike conduct while Weaver high was fined a total of $200 for two incidents of unsportsmanlike conduct.
The vast majority of rules violations involved player ejections, while some schools were fined for coaches skipping mandatory rules clinics, failing to maintain proper documentation on athletes when audited by the AHSAA, or even for failing to report a playoff score to the AHSAA office.
