Both sides rested Tuesday afternoon in the murder trial of
Christopher Isaac “El Safari” Surles. Closing arguments will be presented to
the jury today, and deliberations will begin after that. Surles, who has been representing himself at
trial, is charged with the intentional killing of Matthew Howie on July 13,
2012, by shooting him three times. There will be no lesser included offenses
for the jury to consider.
If convicted, he faces 20 to 99 years or life in prison.
