The McClellan Development Authority , the group tasked with developing the
former fort handed over the keys and the deed for 52 acres of land and 16
buildings to the Center for Domestic Preparedness, ending a four-year
negotiation for the FEMA-controlled center to expand its footprint. The
transaction, $3.5 million is the largest sale the authority has made since the
fort closed in 1999.
The Center for
Domestic Preparedness hosted a ceremony Wednesday to seal the deal which will
expand the center's footprint from 124 acres to 176 acres.
The transaction mostly involved transferring
ownership of buildings that had been leased by the center since 2006, including
its Noble Training which first responders use for mass casualty training.
