Calhoun Democratic Party passes resolution in election challange

James Montgomery

The Calhoun County Democratic Party has passed a resolution finding insufficient evidence to back up claims that Calhoun County Commission District 1  candidate James Montgomery should have won the nomination over incumbent Fred Wilson.
Montgomery said he was contesting the results of the election based on what he said are uncounted absentee ballots.
Montgomery said Thursday he was hoping to appeal his case to the state Democratic Party, but Chairwoman Nancy Worley said he would have to have a hearing with the local party. Montgomery said he did not have a chance to present his case in person to local party officials.
Local party officials say  Montgomery’s next course of action would be to take his case to court. Montgomery said Thursday he was unsure what his next step would be.
