Police say Gadsden homocides may be connected

Gadsden police are investigating the city's third homicide in one week. The latest deadly shooting happened at a home on Kentucky Ave. and Chandler Street in east Gadsden, a few blocks away from Gadsden State Community College. A neighbor said he heard about nine shots fired in succession around 1 a.m. At the time, he said he didn't think anything about it. He later found out his neighbor 45 year old William Brown was dead. The deputy coroner has said Brown was killed with what appeared to be an AK47 assault weapon. Brown had gotten into a vehicle at his home when the shots were fired into the vehicle. The deputy coroner said it appeared that the shooter had laid in wait until Brown came out of his home before he opened fire on him. It is the same type weapon that was reportedly used in another drive by shooting early Saturday morning in which two men were killed. The other deadly shooting happened early Saturday morning on the east end of the Meighan Boulevard bridge. Two men, 51-year-old Billy Baker and 35-year-old Jobari Player, were killed after another car drove up next to theirs and opened fire. Police are saying little about the shootings other than that they cannot rule out they might be related.
