Anniston
is the latest city to try and curb crime with a late-night youth
program.The city announced Monday that it would start a midnight
basketball program, which will run from September to October. Games
will run from 7 p.m. to midnight. The idea for the program goes back
more than 20 years and was endorsed by former Presidents George H.
Bush and Bill Clinton. City councilman Seyran Selase said that
Violentcrimes, especially with young people, really happen between
the hoursof 7 p.m. to about...12 a.m. The councilman said their hope
is to keep them off of the streets, and away from possibilities of
getting into stuff with negative environments. Anyone interested in
forming or joining a team can register at Anniston City Hall or at
any of the city's six community centers. The program will
be-Available for youth between 13 and 18.
