Oxford man charged with animal cruelty

Police charged a 35 year old Oxford man with animal cruelty after officers discovered an emaciated pit bull living in a cage in the man’s backyard last week. The uncle of Brandon Dontye Deramus called police and said his nephew had a dog in his backyard that might be dead. An officer went to a house on West Oak Street Sunday. The officer discovered the pit bull, covered in flies, in a cage behind the home. The dog was extremely malnourished and its ribs were showing. The dog was having trouble breathing, Deramus’ uncle took possession of the dog. The charge against Deramus is considered a misdemeanor and he was released on a two thousand dollar bond.
