Two Anniston men are in custody after
one of the men assaulted An Anniston police officer with a box
cutter during a Saturday morning traffic stop.
The officer pulled a car over occupied by two men around 2:45 a.m. Saturday morning at the intersection of Blue Mountain Road and Main Street. The officer saw both men attempting to swallow bags of cocaine, Sparks said.
The officer tried to keep both men from swallowing the drugs when the passanger brandished a box cutter cutting the officers hand but the officer was able able to remove the weapon from the suspect.
56 year old Randy Elbert Kirkland was charged with second-degree assault and possession of a controlled substance, both felonies, as well as resisting arrest, a misdemeanor.
49 year old Ronald Robinson was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor resisting arrest.
Robinson and Kirkland were in the Anniston City Jail today.
Kirkland’s bond is set at $121,000. Robinson’s bond is $6,000. Court appearances for both men are scheduled for Sept. 16.
