The Calhoun County Commission passed
two resolutions Thursday to clarify the county’s policies on
firearms. One of the resolutions prohibits firearms from the
buildings and grounds that the commission or county has authority
over and says notices will be posted at entrances. The other
addresses county employees. Employees are prohibited from carrying a
gun while on county property but a firearm can be stored in an
employee’s private vehicle as long as they adhere to state
regulations.
Officials say the policies may have to be
re-visited in the future to make exceptions for employees in certain
circumstances, for example if a grounds crew finds a poisonous snake
on county premises and uses a firearm.
