The Alabama State Board of Education voted Thursday to approve the
recommendation of Mark Heinrich, chancellor of the Alabama Community
College System, to accept the resignation of Gadsden state community
college president Raymont Staat. Staats has been on paid
administrative since July following a no-confidence vote in his
leadership by the college's employees. Staats will be paid through
Dec. 31. Heinrich received Staats’ resignation letter in the last
few days. Mary Scott Hunter, District 8 member of the state Board of
Education said the decision is right for the college allowing both
the college and Staats to move on.
