A Calhoun County Jury found a
33-year-old Anniston man guilty Wednesday for the 2012 rape of an
11-year-old girl. The jury convicted Derick Reza Foroutan on felony
first-degree rape charges. Prosecutors had alleged that Foroutan
forcibly had sex with the girl on July 17, 2012, in his Anniston
home.
Foroutan’s trial began Monday as jurors heard testimony from the girl’s stepmother, a forensic examiner and a doctor.
The girl’s stepmother told the jury the victim called her shortly after the incident. The stepmother testified she called police right away and took the girl for an examination. The woman testified that she had taken care of the victim after her biological mother abandoned her when the victim was 6. The victim, now 12, is in foster care. Sentencing is set for Sept. 3rd before Circuit Judge Brian Howell.
