Hokes Bluff man arrested after leading police on chase

Hokes Bluff police have arrested a 30 year old man after a homeowner caught him stealing items from his home on Hackberry Lane in Hokes Bluff.  Billy Ray Hubbard was charged with  felony theft and multiple misdemeanor charges after he led police on a chase in his truck and on foot.  Hubbard allegedly stole a 6-foot by 10-foot utility trailer from Hackberry Lane on Thursday and took it to a residence on Blue Creek Road.  He then loaded up Pontiac GTO parts and scrap metal onto the trailer and left.  The homeowner caught Hubbard and was able to give police a description of both the truck and the trailer. Hokes buff officers spotted a vehicle matching that description Saturday night and tried to stop it on Old U.S. Highway 278.  Hubbard fled from police, eventually bailing out of the truck and attempted to flee on foot, but was caught and taken into custody.  Investigators said Hubbard confessed to taking the trailer as well as the parts and the scrap metal.
Hubbard has been charged with first-degree theft of property, disorderly conduct, attempting to elude police, obstructing government operations and driving under the influence, as well as multiple traffic violations. He is being held on $17,100 bond.
