Murder confession played Wednesday in Anniston murder trial

Prosecutors played a videotaped confession Wednesday in the Calhoun county murder trial of a 24 year old Anniston man charged in the death of a wellborn school teacher.  In the video, Nicholas Smith, confessed to police he slit third-grade teacher Kevin Thompson’s throat in April 2011.  The interview took place on April 27, 2011 – seven days after the Wellborn Elementary School teacher was kidnapped, robbed and killed. Smith was arrested by police at the Atlanta airport on April 22 and was returned to Calhoun County five days later for questioning. Initially Smith told investigators he had no idea what was going on when Thompson was kidnapped and that he was dropped off at a friend’s home before the killing took place. After several questions from Parris and the investigator repeating “you’re still leaving some things out,” Smith provided police with more details of the crime.
A jury heard testimony from 14 witnesses Wednesday in the  capital murder trial. Prosecution Testimony will continue today.
