Talladega county searching for suspect who escaped custody

The Talladega county Drug and Violent Crime Task Force is searching for a man facing gun and drug charges who escaped from custody Wednesday afternoon.  53 year old Donald Lee Reaves, is described as a 5 foot 11 inch black male who weighs approximately 181 pounds. When last seen, he was wearing a dark shirt, red shorts, a red windbreaker and a pair of handcuffs behind his back.  Reaves was first encountered Wednesday afternoon by Talladega police officers attempting to serve misdemeanor warrants on a female subject believed to be in Reaves’ residence on Old Shocco Road. The female was not present, but Reaves was determined to have outstanding warrants through Talladega County for failure to pay child support.  Officers ran the number of a gun inside the residence. Task force members were aware that Reaves was a convicted felon who was not supposed to have any firearms, so they contacted the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.  Armed with a search warrant, task force and federal agents searched the residence. discovering two guns, marijuana and more than eight grams of crack cocaine.   Reaves managed to escape from a police car while the warrant was being executed. Officials said Reaves does not currently face any federal charges, but does face possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and child support charges.  Anyone with information on his whereabouts should contact Talladega task force at 256-410-6511.
