The Etowah County Republican Executive Committee has
approved recommendations to Gov. Robert Bentley concerning a vacancy on the
Etowah County Commission and three appointments to the Gadsden Civil Service
Board.
The committee recommended former Gadsden City Councilman
Lewis Fuller and former Etowah Chief Deputy Johnny Grant for the District 2
County Commission post to replace Commissioner Kenney Tidmore, who died Feb.
22.
Tidmore was elected in 2012, so there will be two years left
on his term.
The governor's appointment secretary asked the committee for
three names for Bentley to consider, but Fuller and Grant were the only people
who received any votes from the committee. Mark McGriff, Anita Simmons and
Charles Atchley also are seeking the position.
Candidates seeking the appointment were allowed to speak to
the committee about why they were interested and to give information about
themselves.
Bentley could choose to name someone else, or someone might
have applied directly to the governor's office without contacting the local
party.
For the Civil Service Board, the committee recommended
Juarus Rawls be reappointed. Rawls was named last year to replace Billy
Billingsley, who was elected to the Gadsden City Council.
It also recommended Craig Inzer, who previously has served
in the board; Lucinda Monroe, a paralegal; and David Ford, who is in the
process of moving to Gadsden.
Two current members, Marion Ford and Jack Roberts, have said
they do not want to be reappointed.
