Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange said in a release
Wednesday that 20-year-old Thomas Jack Hixon of Chickamauga, Georgia pleaded
guilty to attempted computer tampering. Hixon has been sentenced to five years
in prison, a $1,000 fine and a $50 fee for the Alabama Crime Victims Compensation
Commission.
Authorities say Hixon used spoofing software to manipulate
his caller ID information to appear as a Weaver Police Department employee when
he made calls. Prosecutors say Hixon called the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office
trying to get a username and password for the National Crime Information Center
database, which contains confidential law enforcement records.
