Police say A Gadsden man was shot in the leg Wednesday night
after he questioned why a man was visiting his East Cherry Street residence.
The 26-year-old victim told police he was away from home
briefly, visiting his mother, and returned about 8:20 p.m. to find his wife and
her mother at the house, along with a 47-year-old man.
He said he asked the man why he was there, and told the man
he was not supposed to be there. The victim said the man walked outside to a
witness’ car and got in on the passenger side. The victim followed him out and
continued to ask why he was there.
The victim told police the man got out of the car and
pointed a gun at him. He hit the gun, knocking it downward as two shots were
fired.
The victim was struck in the leg and struggled with the
assailant, making him drop the gun. The gun was kicked across the street and
the victim managed to get the assailant in a choke hold, taking him to the
ground.
After a few moments, the assailant got away from the victim,
got into the car with the witness and left the scene.
The victim’s wife helped get him to their car and was going
to take him to a hospital when several police cars arrived. Gadsden Fire medics
and an ambulance responded, taking the victim for treatment.
The victim told police the assailant had lived with them in
the past. He said there had been no previous fighting between them.
