Joyce Hardin Garrard |
The last panel of potential jurors were questioned Wednesday
by defense attorneys and prosecutors in the capital murder case against Joyce
Hardin Garrard, and the trial is expected to begin Monday.
Jurors have been instructed to report back to the judicial
building Friday afternoon, when Etowah County Circuit Judge William Ogletree
said he expects to impanel a jury.
In the interim, both sides of the case will be analyzing
information obtained from three days of questioning potential jurors to
discover biases or beliefs that might influence their interpretation of
evidence in the case.
Garrard is charged with intentionally causing the death of
her 9-year-old granddaughter, Savannah Hardin, by forcing the girl to run for
hours as punishment for lying about eating candy.
The girl collapsed after the punishment in February 2012 and
died days later at a hospital.
