Childersburg touting new industry



The Childersburg city council took action Tuesday that could bring A new industry with 25 jobs and a $2 million payroll one step closer to reality in the city. Tuesday evening. Council members voted to grant tax abatements requested on behalf of Alabama Green Lubricants, which would build in the Childersburg Industrial Park.  If built, the industry would represent a $49.5 million investment, according to Calvin Miller, executive director of the Talladega County Economic Development Authority. Miller asked the council to approve a resolution exempting the industry from paying state and local property taxes not earmarked for schools for 10 years, as well as construction-related sales taxes and mortgage and recording taxes. School taxes would not be exempted.  Miller said the industry targets having 25 employees and a $2 million payroll after two years of operation.
