Person of interest in weekend shooting killed by train



Authorities in St. Clair county say a person of interest in connection with a Saturday morning shooting in Riverside was struck and killed by a train early Monday morning.  St. Clair County Coroner Dennis Russell identified the victim as 18 year old Christian Stipes,  of Oneonta.  Russell said She was struck by a Norfolk-Southern train at about 3:31 Monday morning in Riverside and was killed instantly.  St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department investigators said the woman was being sought as a person of interest in connection with a shooting Saturday morning.  Investigators said She was at the scene with two men when the shooting occurred, however investigators say they are unsure if it was an accidental or intentional shooting.  One man was shot in the leg and the other man and Stipes fled the scene on foot.  The victim with the leg wound had non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to University Hospital in Birmingham.  Authorities say they have been unable to locate the other man.
