Hokes Bluff woman convicted in husbands murder

An Etowah county jury deliberated less than an hour  Friday before finding a Hokes Bluff woman guilty in the 2010 murder of her husband.   The jury of seven men and seven women, two of whom were alternates and did not vote convicted   Circuit Judge William Rhea revoked Susann Kutschenreuter’s bond and she was taken into custody after the verdict was announced.  The woman claimed she had acted in self-defense as a battered spouse and was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after years of abuse. She said her husband raped and sodomized her repeatedly during the course of their marriage and controlled the household with absolute authority.
Susann Kutschenreuter of shooting her husband three times, once in the back of the head and twice in the back, at point-blank range on July 20, 2010, in their home in the Ball Play community.
