Former Anniston councilman stabbed in domestic dispute, wife charged



The wife of a former Anniston city councilman was arrested Friday on charges she pepper sprayed then stabbed her husband.
62 year old Mary Rivers Montgomery,  is charged with first-degree domestic violence in connection with the incident, which occurred shortly after midnight at the couple's home on Greenbrier Dear Road.
According to Anniston police, officers responded to the home on a report of a stabbing. Upon arriving, they found the ex-councilman 64 year old James Don Montgomery,  suffering from two stab wounds to his back and multiple lacerations to his chest. He told officers that he and his wife had been in a verbal altercation before being pepper-sprayed and stabbed.
James Don Montgomery was transported to the Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center for treatment to his injuries. His wife was arrested and booked into the Justin Sollohub Justice Center.
An investigation remains ongoing.
