4 Arrested in Attalla thefts



Attalla police have arrested four suspects in connection with recent theft cases in the city.  
25 year old Kevin James Cox, of Hokes Bluff, was arrested Monday for second-degree theft in connection after two flat-screen TVs were taken from Walmart in Attalla. Investigators said a man was seen taking the two TVs and leaving the store without paying for them. In investigating the crime, police looked at security camera footage, and one of the detectives recognized Cox..

m, and he admitted the theft. The TVs had been pawned at a Marshall County pawn shop and will be recovered. Cox is being investigated for similar thefts in Gadsden and in Boaz.
Two women were arrested for felony and misdemeanor theft on Dec. 3, after a purse left in a shopping cart at an Attalla store was taken.
A woman reported the theft Nov. 26. She placed her purse in the shopping cart at Eagle Rock Thrift Store, and, after making a purchase, she put the bag containing her purchase on top of the purse. When she left the store, she picked up the bag, but forgot the purse. security camera footage from the store shows two women looking at the purse and looking around the store. They make a purchase and as they head out, one woman takes the purse, hands it to her companion and they leave. one of the detectives recognized one of the women and they were able to find both women.
41 year old Tonja Elizabeth Ellis, of  Ashville, and 39 year old Gerri Mink Couch, of Gadsden, were charged with second-degree theft for taking the credit cards in the woman’s purse and third-degree theft for taking the purse and other contents.
An arrest in Gadsden led Attalla police to a man accused of taking a debit card and using it repeatedly without authorization. When Gadsden police arrested 46 year old  Gregory Lamar Shaneyfelt,  they found him in possession of a debit card that didn’t belong to him. The owner of the card, an Attalla resident, told police Shaneyfelt had done work at his house, and he later discovered unlawful charges on debit card. Shaneyfelt has been charged with seven counts of fraudulent use of a credit card. He also faces a host of misdemeanor charges and is held for a probation violation. He remains in jail with bond set at $2,500 for each of tTop row,
