Oxford man charged in sex abuse case

An Oxford man has been charged with second-degree rape for allegedly having sex with a 13-year-old girl in January.
The victim’s mother told Calhoun county deputies that in January her daughter left school and went to an unknown location, and was later brought home by a man driving a van.
The daughter told her mother that she had sex with the man.
DNA evidence was collected and sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences lab in Huntsville for testing, which took almost a year.
With Those results in hand, investigators obtained a search warrant for DNA samples from the suspect, who then admitted to having sex with the girl twice in January.
The man was released on a $15,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 5.
