Woman escapes police custody in Gadsden Hospital



Police report that A Gadsden woman escaped police custody Monday evening after she was arrested following a domestic incident, then taken to a hospital for treatment.
The 38-year-old woman was with her mother and other family members at a Presley Avenue residence about 5:30 p.m., when she started arguing with her mother about her grandchildren being too loud in the living room.
The mother,  walked outside to tell others that she was taking the suspect to her boyfriend’s house.
When she stepped back in the house, her daughter began yelling and threw something at her.
Two other family members got involved, trying to stop the suspect from hitting her mother with a coffee cup and with other dishes she was throwing.
Both filed police reports saying they were assaulted by the suspect when they tried to intervene. Police noted that both had scratches and marks on their faces and necks.
The suspect went outside and started breaking windows and did damage to the residence’s rear door. According to the police report, she started breaking windows with her hands, then started throwing rocks at the glass before police arrived.
After an officer arrived at the residence, he radioed that he was pursuing a suspect and asked for assistance. When other officers arrived, they found the officer and the suspect in a wooded area behind the residence.
The white female suspect was lying on the ground, according to the report, covered in blood, cursing at officers. The officer said he tried to use a Taser on the woman during the altercation.
Medics came to the scene and she was taken to a hospital for treatment.
While the woman was in custody at the hospital, staff members had the officer remove her handcuffs.
While watching her in a hospital room, one of the officers received a message to relay to the officer who responded to the initial call. Not knowing the woman had been uncuffed, he left the room to relay the message.
When he returned, the woman was gone.
She walked out of a service exit and went down the ladder well, then out the emergency exit
