Etowah DA plans to target deadbeat parents

District Attorney Jimmie Harp

Etowah County District Attorney Jimmie Harp says  his office has  been getting multiple calls every day from parents, most often single moms, who are struggling to get by because non-custodial parents have failed to pay child support.
Harp said he plans in the near future to take action against parents who haven’t paid up.
Harp said that they are giving people a chance to pay up.. “After a reasonable amount of time, Harp said if I doesn’t see that happening, some people are going to jail.
Harp said the DA’s office will treat deadbeat dads (and moms) as it does drug offenders: “We’ll have a roundup.”
The DA’s office traditionally helps fund some extra patrols by deputies in the county. This year, Harp said, he’s looking at helping fund some overtime work by warrant servers.
