Attalla man killed after stalled car struck by train



Authorities report An Attalla man was killed when his car collided with a train and the vehicle hit him after it had stalled out on railroad tracks Tuesday night.  Etowah County Deputy Coroner Michael Head said the incident happened at 10:03 p.m. Tuesday night on 13th Avenue N.W. in Attalla. 64 year old Carlton R. Williams,  of Attalla was driving his vehicle across railroad tracks when the car apparently stalled.  Williams got out of his car and attempted to flag an oncoming train down to prevent a collision, but the train struck his vehicle, which in turn, struck him, throwing his body some 20 feet away from the car. Authorities are not sure how long his car was stalled on the tracks before the collision.

Williams was dead on arrival at Gadsden Regional Medical Center.
