Cedar Bluff officials resign

Cedar Bluff's mayor, town clerk and assistant town clerk all resigned from office Monday afternoon.  During a special called meeting, Mayor Martha Baker presented her resignation to the council, giving no reason except that "she feels it necessary to resign." The town council accepted her resignation, along with those of both the town clerk and assistant town clerk.  Mayor Baker told the council she appointed Council Member Billie Burkhalter to serve as Mayor Pro-tem and she asked the council to set that appointment aside so the new interim mayor could appoint their Pro-tem. The council did so and then appointed Council Member Tammy Crane as Mayor Pro-tem.  Mayor Baker gave a 30 day notice to the council or until such a time they could find someone to fill her unexpired term.  The council also voted to cancel the town's Liberty Day celebration due to the resignations, but the fireworks show will go on June 28.
