Oxford woman injured in dog attack

Oxford police say an Oxford woman was sent to the hospital Thursday night after she was attacked by two dogs in an Oxford neighborhood.  54 year old Donna Williams Truitt was taken to Regional Medical Center with injuries after being attacked by a neighbor’s pit bull and German shepherd on Cooper Court. According to police Truitt suffered cuts to her right leg, left arm and both wrists in the attack. Truitt was released from the hospital Friday.  According to the police report, Truitt was walking her own dog in the central Oxford neighborhood when the other two dogs attacked her. Police said a 12-year-old boy identified as Hayden Riley, who lives in the neighborhood intervened in the attack.  After police responded to the scene, the two dogs were taken to Cheaha Animal Hospital in Oxford. The dogs’ owner, Cindy Smith, was arrested by Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office deputies for an unrelated charge after a background check revealed an outstanding warrant for failure to appear.  Oxford police have not charged Smith with a crime.  However, a municipal animal control officer went to the court magistrate Friday afternoon, with the result that a summons has been issued for the dogs’ owner to appear before the city judge. Dogs running at large violates a city ordinance.
