Sylacauga man sentenced on rape conviction

Aaron Lamont Looney

A 37 year old Sylacauga man has been sentenced to concurrent 25-year and 21-year prison terms after being convicted of rape in the first degree and burglary in the second degree.  Aaron Lamont Looney, was convicted of both charges by a jury in April. He was sentenced this week by Circuit Judge Bo Hollingsworth.  Prosecutors say Looney has two prior felony convictions in addition to the ones he was sentenced on this week.  Looney was convicted of breaking into the apartment of a woman he went to high school with in January 2005. The victim tried to get out of the room to call someone, but Looney ultimately grabbed her arms, pinned her to her bed and raped her. He was identified by witnesses, although there was little forensic evidence submitted to the jury.
