Altoona man charged with attempted murder

Lucky Jim Gilbreath

An Altoona man has been arrested for allegedly cutting a relative's throat following an argument over his children.  42 year old Lucky Jim Gilbreath, is currently being held in the county detention center, charged with attempted murder.   Authorities say the alleged throat-slashing incident occurred Monday at a home on Durham Road in the Howelton community. Gilbreath was involved in an argument with the victim over his children being taken from him and into the custody of the Department of Human Resources. The verbal altercation later escalated into a knifing that left one man with a serious cut to his neck.  Deputies were called to the home and upon arriving, they found a man sitting outside the home, covered in blood and with a bandage over his throat. The man was taken to Marshall Medical Center, where he received 78 stitches to close the gash on his neck.  Gilbreath was located by investigators at a nearby home and taken into custody. His bond has been set at $100,000.
