Students in the Calhoun County school system will get an
extra week of summer vacation as the Board of Education voted Tuesday to begin the school year a week later
to allow teachers two weeks of training on new curriculum standards. The change was recommended by Superintendent Joe Dyar. Classes in the Calhoun County system will
begin Aug. 19 instead of Aug. 14 allowing teachers 14 days of training on
Alabama College and Career Ready Standards.
