Hundreds, if not thousands, of more Alabama children will
now have the option to attend voluntary pre-K classes thanks to new grants
announced wednesday by Governor Bentley.
That includes a number of schools in east central Alabama.. Bentley and pre-K
advocates asked for and got an extra $9 million in funding for pre-K from the
state legislature this year, and schools who wanted a shot at that money had to
apply for grants. Wednesday morning
Bentley revealed the list of 93 schools that includes $120,000.00 for
Jacksonvilles kittystone elementary, $45,000 each for Norwood school and hobson
city head start in Anniston, $120,000 for spring garden in Cherokee
county,$120,000 for the WEE beginnis in Altoona in Etowah county.
Bentley said the state had to turn down more than half the
schools that applied for the funding, illustrating a need for more funding
he'll be pushing for next year.
