The Honda auto plant in Lincoln has announced yet another
expansion, this time at a cost of $48.4 million dollars, creating 20 additional
jobs at the Talladega county plant. The
Talladega County Commission monday approved sales and use tax abatements for
the project which is related to the
production of direct injection engines and Honda's "Earth Dreams
Technology," which is designed to increase fuel efficiency and reduce
emissions of the V-6 engines produced at the plant. The plant will begin making
its own heads instead of getting them from another Honda facility. Construction, equipment installation and
testing are expected to be complete in 2014. The new jobs will be in the engine plant. This expansion is the latest in a string of
expansion projects for the 4,000-worker facility. Over the past two years,
Honda has spent nearly $400 million and added about 400 jobs. Thus far Honda
has invested over $2 billion in the Lincoln facility.
