Weaver set to begin sunday alcohol sales
Beginning this weekend, businesses with the proper alcohol licenses in
the city of Weaver can sell beer, wine and liquor on Sunday. The Weaver
City Council voted Tuesday to join Anniston as the only two
municipalities in Calhoun County to expand alcohol sales to seven days a
week. Currently, only the Bearcat Express, a convenience store in
downtown Weaver, sells alcohol, but that is likely to change come August
First. Another bill signed into law this year will annex two
businesses on Alabama highway 21 into the city, a beverage store and
restaurant. The ordinance expanding sales to seven days a week places
no time restrictions on sales. Mayor Wayne Willis says the council
could decide at a later time if they wish to place further guidelines on
the law.
