Officials at Saks High School in Calhoun county said Monday that
an electrical fire that sparked early Sunday morning had been going for over
six hours before it was discovered by a maintenance employee who smelled smoke.
Calhoun County School system safety director Mike Fincher said Monday that Surveillance
video at the school shows the fire started at 2 a.m. Sunday morning. Fincher said
the smoldering fire did create a lot of smoke damage. Structural
engineers deemed the area affected safe for clean up monday. Fincher says
central office staff, school system officials, a state insurance
representatives and engineers are working together and developing a plan for
repair.
